The ensemble der/gelbe/klang is dedicated to the music of today in its entire programmatic range. In close contact with composers, the ensemble experiments with the question of contemporary forms of expression.
der/gelbe/klang already has an impressive history, having emerged in 2020 from two top-class Munich ensembles: Zeitsprung and BlauerReiter, both established in the scene for years. With projects such as the world premiere of the cycle “riss” by Mark Andre, they set accents and brought composer personalities such as Pierluigi Billone to the aDevantgarde festival in Munich.
The merger is an initiative of members of both ensembles. By combining artistic, personnel and financial resources, they have formed an ensemble with enormous potential. Cooperations, for example with the NEOS label, Jeunesses Musicales or already planned projects in the field of music theater can be seamlessly continued with the new ensemble. Kasper de Roo is already expected as guest conductor in the first season, and a portrait concert with Raphaël Cendo is also planned. Two CD projects are in preparation for 2020/21 (music by Huang Ruo for KAIROS and Michael Quell for NEOS).
Direct contact with composers of the younger generation is of fundamental importance to the ensemble. The interpretation of key works of the 20th century is also part of the musicians’ self-image. A decisive theme will be cross-genre projects, especially the combination with visual elements, be it light, performance, video or completely new approaches.
Such an extension of the concert concept is essential for the new Munich ensemble – this conviction also led to the choice of the name der/gelbe/klang, after Wassily Kandinsky’s ingenious concept of a holistic “stage composition”.
