Mathias Lachenmayr studied in Munich with Peter Sadlo and Adel Shalaby. Already during this time he specialized in contemporary music and has since worked with composers such as Helmut Lachenmann, Harrison Birtwistle, Brian Ferneyhough, Georges Aperghis, Steve Reich, Mark Andre, Beat Furrer and Wolfgang Rihm. In 2018 he received the Leonhard and Ida Wolf Memorial Prize for Music of the City of Munich.
Lachenmayr has already been heard at festivals and concert series such as Cresc Biennale Frankfurt, SOU Festival Georgia, Gaudeamus Netherlands, time of music Finland as well as at the International Summer Courses Darmstadt and Klangspuren Schwaz. CD and radio productions have been made for BR, ORF, NEOS, solo musica, perc pro and YLE Radio 1 (Finland).
In the 2016/17 season he was the percussionist of the International Ensemble Modern Academy in Frankfurt am Main. Mathias Lachenmayr has played with a variety of ensembles and orchestras, including the Munich Symphony Orchestra, the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Ensemble Windkraft and the Ensemble Modern. He was a member of the ensembles BlauerReiter and Zeitsprung, which reformatted as the/gelbe/klang in 2020.
